These Girls and Boys can Ride (Orbost) Partnership

  Sunday 10th November, 2024

East Gippsland Active Transport Inc. (EGATI) recently partnered with the bike group “These Girls and Boys can Ride” in Orbost. The group combined a delightful ride on the newly upgraded East Gippsland Rail Trail with a Bicycle Maintenance Workshop. It was exciting to see pegs in the ground to indicate work about to start on the long awaited restauration of the Orbost trestle bridge thanks to State Government Tourism funding and hard work by the local committee.

The Bicycle Maintenance Workshop was presented in Forest Park, Orbost by Liz Mitchell, former owner of Snow River Cycles. All participants were delighted with the workshop and now feel much more confident in keeping their bikes in top condition and are no longer nervous about the prospect of having a puncture while on a remote ride.

That workshop is one of a series of workshops being run by EGATI, funded by VicRoads. Other workshops to be run across the shire are Bicycle Education for Adults, Walking with Care and Motorised Mobility device workshops. Walking with Care workshops will be presented to both Bairnsdale and Mitchell Probus clubs in the next month.
